Curbside recycling has begun in Fanwood and despite a few minor hiccups, the first day of pickup went very well. We will have a debriefing soon with the PMUA to review any outstanding issues. If for some reason the PMUA missed your house or you have another complaint or problem, you can push the CONTACT button on your Recycle Coach smartphone app and send a message. You can also call the PMUA directly at (908) 226-2518 or send them an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Curbside pick up will continue every other Thursday. Please visit fanwoodnj.org to view the complete calendar. Containers should be set to the curb on Wednesday evening. The diagram on the lid reminds you which way to face it (little metal bar faces the street) and what items you can place in it - household plastics #1-7, tin cans, aluminum cans, newspaper, mixed paper, cardboard, books and magazines. You can also stack books and newspapers in boxes or bags next to the container. Please do not place loose plastic grocery bags in the bin--they clog the machinery in New Brunswick. You may bunch them together and tie them together into a ball. Shredded paper has to be placed in clear plastic bags and set next to the bin.
This Saturday, from 8 a.m.- 11 a.m., you can bring your electronics, scrap metal, fluorescent bulbs, clothing, motor oil, and damaged American flags to the North Avenue recycling center. The flags will be disposed of respectfully. Then, starting in November, you can do so the first Saturday of every month, 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. ONLY FANWOOD RESIDENTS MAY USE THE RECYCLING CENTER.
In the interest of safety, we would like to remind drivers slow down when passing collection trucks.
Fanwood is providing a new recycling app
to residents, called Recycle Coach. The goal is to make recycling more convenient for residents, while increasing participation. The mobile application can be installed for free on tablets,
smartphones and computers, making information and resources available at your fingertips.
The app is customized for Fanwood and allows users to:
Mayor Colleen Mahr said, “We want to give residents every tool possible to ensure Fanwood’s curbside recycling program is successful and convenient. We hope the app will increase recycling and limit the amount of recyclables headed to the landfill so we can continue to do our part to promote a healthy planet.”
Recycle Coach is now available for download through the App store or recyclecoach.com. You may also use the website version below.
