The long-awaited opening of the new Fanwood Grille occurred Friday, July 7, 2017, at 6am, with a full menu for breakfast and lunch and a staff eagerly awaiting new customers. The Fanwood Grille, at the space occupied for many years by the Fanwood Corner Store at 34 South Martine Avenue, is owned by Paul Watterson, who also owns Nick’s Pizza on the same block of Martine Avenue, and John Mooney, owner/publisher of the TapInto.com online news service. The restaurant’s hours will be 6am-6pm, seven days a week, serving a menu that includes lobster rolls, burgers, fries, Texas style hot dogs, falafel, a steak sandwich and traditional breakfast foods. There is counter service and table service. The interior has been completely redesigned with all new floors, walls, lighting, counter and kitchen equipment. Among the first visitors Friday morning were Bruce Zakarin, Fanwood Recreation Commissioner, Greg Cummings, former Planning Board member and Councilman Tom Kranz.
