America’s veterans, particularly those from Fanwood who have served or are currently on active duty, were honored Wednesday, Nov. 11, in Veterans’ Day ceremonies at the Fanwood Memorial Library.

Jointly sponsored by American Legion Post 209 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10122, the ceremonies featured speakers, an eight-person joint color guard from the two organizations, the laying of memorial wreaths and a rifle salute.

Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr delivered remarks to the crowd and presented families of Fanwood residents now serving in the military with service flags featuring a blue star on a red and white background. The banner, which dates back to World War I, is for display by families who have members serving in the Armed Forces during any period of war or hostilities.

Those honored included Navy Petty Officer Francis Celardo, Army Sgt. 1st Class Colin Craig, Army Lt. Michael Lubinski, Army Ranger Tom Sutter and Army 1st Lt. Thomas Ruggieri (currently deployed in Afghanistan).
