Mayor Mahr Performs Fanwood’s First Same-Sex Marriage

David Rivera and Sandy Herrera, both of Fanwood, were married Friday, October 25th, 2013, at Fanwood Borough Hall by Mayor Colleen Mahr. The couple is the first in Fanwood to be married since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act and a NJ judge said same-sex marriages could proceed. The couple was also the first in Fanwood to enter into a civil union in 2007, a ceremony also presided over by Mayor Mahr. David, an IT sales person, and Sandy, a program manager, have lived in our town for 22 years.
