Fanwood residents recently received their 2019 sewer utility bills. Payment is due by August 5,
2019. Payment may be made by mail, in-person at Borough Hall or online at fanwoodnj.org by
clicking here. Online payments carry a small convenience fee.

This is the only sewer bill you will receive for 2019.

Unlike last year’s bill, which was based on a small percentage of your tax assessment, this bill is
based on your 2018 water usage as reported by NJ American Water. As prescribed in the
ordinance passed by the Borough Council earlier this year, the fee formula is:

Range of Use per Gallons                         Fee

  • Less than 30,000                                     $50.00
  • 30,001 to 100,000                                   $84.00
  • 100,001 to 200,000                                 $126.00
  • 200,001 to 300,000                                $210.00
  • 300,001 to 400,000                                $750.00
  • 400,001 to 500,000                                 $1,000.00
  • 500,001 to 1,000,000                             $2,500.00
  • 1,000,001 to 2,000,000                         $5,000.00
  • Over 2,000,001                                        $7,500.00

Of the 2,481 residential users in our town, 2,248 fall into the first two categories of usage.
Commercial users have been billed according to their usage for many years.

The Borough Council instituted the sewer utility in 2018 for the sole purpose of maintaining and
repairing our aging, 26-mile-long sewer system. To date, the funds raised through these fees
have already paid for remedial repairs to some existing sewer lines and the manpower required
to accomplish this. The NJ Department of Environmental Protection now requires all municipal
sewer systems to be cleaned on a regular basis. We have already accomplished the first phase
of this cleaning using funds from our sewer utility.

We thank you for your timely payment. Any questions or comments may be addressed to the
Fanwood Tax Collector, 908-322-8236, ext. 126.
