Some timely reminders to school zone drivers and pedestrians during the holiday season:

  1. Crossing Guards are at various intersections in town. Please be patient as their job is to ensure the safety of pedestrians and not to direct traffic. Please be vigilant when they are in crosswalks.
  2. Police officers will continue to be in school zones to enforce various motor vehicle laws. Speeding on side streets, parking violations, and other issues will be strictly enforced.
  3. For those dropping off at the high school: You may save time by dropping students off a few blocks away from the school to avoid Westfield Road. Please do so safely and without obstructing traffic.
  4. For students parking near the high school: Sections of roads around the high school are for residents and permit holders ONLY. Please be cognizant of signage in those areas.
  5. For those dropping off and picking up on Pleasant Avenue (between Westfield Road and Deborah Way), Montrose Avenue (between Westfield Road and Watchung View Place) and Portland Avenue (between Westfield Road and Watchung View Place) are to NOT PARK ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE ROADWAY. Parking in those areas impedes the flow of 2-way traffic from the High School, which includes passers-by, school buses, etc. Police Officers have been instructed to move any vehicles parked, stopped, or standing in those areas. Violators will be issued summonses.
  6. For those dropping off on Madison Avenue near Nettingham Middle School: Police will be enforcing those who violate the “No Stopping, No Standing” ordinance. Parking in those restricted areas is unsafe and adds to the traffic congestion in the area. You may want to drop students off a block away to not violate the ordinance and not get stuck in traffic.
